What Box?
I received a question from the "Ask the Party Planner"
Column. I loved the theme idea so much I couldn't resist
sharing it.

A reader from Chicago was looking for ideas for a Sesame
Street/Birthday Party for her husband's 40th. His birthday
falls in the same year as Sesame Street's 40th - a show he
loved as a kid. She's looking for ideas on how to incorporate
Sesame Street into the party theme. Here are some of my
suggestons:

MIniature aluminum trash cans with lids could be used for
invites. Insert a crumpled, dog-eared invite inside. Include
some gummy fried eggs, bananas, gummy pizza slices,
balled up paper for a home Oscar the Grouch would be
proud of. Or, use them for adorable party favors. Here are
some other options:

  • Serve “Ernie’s Punch” and put little rubber duckies in
    the punch bowl.

  • Use plastic “lunchroom style” plates in primary colors.

  • Rent an old style street lamp for a local rental supply
store and order a custom made Sesame Street sign
    to use with it.

  • Use magnetic alphabet letters to spell out a special
birthday message on the fridge or message board.

  • Buy a Light-Bright, put a special message or
character on it and put on the food table.

These are some of the ideas I shared with her. To read the
